　　　　中文：小時候，我的外婆在吃東西，我問外婆：「阿媽，你在吃什麼？」

　　　　 English: When I was a kid, I saw my grandmother eating something. I asked Grandma, "Grandma, what are you eating?"

　　　　台語：阿媽講：「我teh食<雞屁股>。」我問講：「彼是啥物？」阿媽講：「你食看覓咧著知。」

　　　　教羅：A-ma² kong²：「goa² teh chiah⁸ <雞屁股>(ke-boe²-chui)。」 Goa² mng⁷ kong²：「 He si⁷ sia²-mih⁸?」A-ma² kong²：「Li² chhiah⁸ khoaⁿ³-mai⁷--leh tioh⁸ chai。」

　　　　中文：外婆說：「我在吃雞屁股。」我問說：「那是什麼？」外婆說：「你吃吃看就知道。」

　　　　English: Grandma said, "I'm eating chicken butt." So I asked, "What is that?" Grandma said, "Just give it a try and you'll find out."

　　　　台文：阿媽共<雞屁股>提予我，我一下食就感覺真好食，閣一直共阿媽討欲食。

　　　　教羅：A-ma² ka⁷ <雞屁股>(ke-boe2-chui) theh⁸ hoo⁷--goa², goa² chit⁸-e⁷ chiah⁸, tioh⁸ kam²-kak chin ho² chiah⁸, it-tit⁸ koh ka⁷ a-ma² tho² beh chiah⁸.

　　　　中文：外婆把雞屁股拿給我，我一吃就覺得真好吃，還一直跟外婆吵著要再吃。

　　　　English: Grandma handed the marinated chicken butt to me. I tried it and thought it was delicious. I couldn't help but to beg Grandma for some more.

2.台文：細漢的時，阿媽攏會遄我去廟仔拜拜。其實，我毋是欲去拜拜，是欲去食物件。

　　　　教羅：Se³-han³ e⁵ si⁵, a-ma² long² e⁷ chhoa⁷ goa² khi³ bio⁷-a² pai³-pai³. ki⁵-sit⁸, goa² m⁷-si⁷ beh khi³ pai³-pai³, si⁷ beh khi³ chiah⁸ mih⁸-kiaⁿ⁷,

　　　　中文：小時候，外婆都會帶我去寺廟拜拜。其實，我不是要去拜拜，是要去吃東西。

　　　　English: When I was a kid, Grandma used to take me to Buddha temples to worship. To be honest, I didn't go to the temples to worship. I went there just to eat.

　　　　台文：雖然去廟裡攏是食菜，毋閣我感覺彼款菜真好食，逐遍攏食袂厭。

　　　　教羅：Sui-jian⁵ khi³ bio⁷-a2 long² si⁷ chiah⁸ chhai³, m⁷-ku² goa² kam²-kak hit khuan² chhai³ chin ho² chiah⁸, tak⁸-pian³ long² chiah⁸ be⁷ sian⁷.

　　　　中文：雖然去廟裡都是吃素，不過我覺得那種菜非常好吃，每次都吃不膩。

　　　　English: Even though the temples only had vegetarian food; however I thought the food were delish, I'd never get tired of eating them.

3.台語：阿媽真儉，伊逐遍用衛生紙的時，攏會摺幾仔摺，才閣慢慢仔用。

　　　　教羅：A-ma² chin khiam⁷, i tak⁸ pian³ eng⁷ oe⁷-seng-choa² e⁵ si⁵, long² e⁷ chih⁸ kui²-loh-chih⁸, chiah⁸ man⁷-man⁷-a² eng⁷.

　　　　中文：外婆很節儉，她每次用衛生的時候，都會摺上好幾摺，然後再慢慢地使用。

　　　　English: Grandma was thrifty. Every time when she used a piece of napkin, she would fold it multiple times, and then use it slowly.

　　　　台文：一遍抽一張，一張先用一旁，拗乎好，才閣用另外一旁。一張會使用規工。

　　　　教羅：Chit⁸-pian³ thiu chit⁸ tiuⁿ ,chit-tiuⁿ seng eng⁷ chit⁸ peng⁵, au² hoo⁷ ho², chiah koh eng⁷ leng⁷-goa⁷ chit⁸ peng⁵. chit-tiuⁿ e⁷-sai² eng⁷ kui kang.

　　　　中文：一次抽一張，一張先用一邊，對摺好，再用另外一邊(擦拭)，一張可以用上一整天。

　　　　English: She would use one piece at a time, use one side first, fold it, and then use the other side. Do that multiple times, a piece of napkin can last her a whole day.

　　　　台文：伊嘛會去麥當勞提規疊的紙轉來，囥佇櫥仔底，一張一張儉儉仔用。

　　　　教羅：I ma⁷-e⁷ khi³ <麥當勞> theh⁸ kui chih⁸ e⁵ choa² tng²-lai⁵, khng³ ti⁷ tu⁵-a² te², chit⁸ tiuⁿ chit⁸ tiuⁿ khiam⁷-khiam⁷-a² eng⁷.

　　　　中文：她也會去麥當勞拿整疊的紙回來，放在櫥子裡，一張一張省省地用。

　　　　English: She would go to McDonalds to pick up a whole stack of napkins to bring home, put them in her drawer, and use them slowly, one piece at a time.

4.台文：阿若是講著食薰，阿媽嘛是這呢儉，一支薰會當食一工。.

　　　　教羅：A na⁷-si⁷ kong² tioh⁸ chiah⁸ hun, a-ma² m^a7-si⁷ chiah-ni⁷ khiam⁷, chit⁸ ki hun e⁷-tang³ chiah⁸ chit⁸-kang.

　　　　中文：那要是說到抽煙，外婆也是這麼節省，一支煙可以抽一整天，

　　　　English: When it comes to smoking, Grandma was just as thrifty. One cigarette could last her a whole day.

　　　　台文：薰點落去，吮兩嘴就熄乎hoa，等一下才閣點乎著；閣吮兩嘴仔，閣熄乎hoa。按呢，一工就佇吞雲吐霧的中間過去矣。

　　　　教羅：Hun tiam²--loh⁸-khi³, suh nng⁷ chhui³ tioh⁸ sit hoo⁷ hoa, tan²--chit⁸-e⁷ chiah⁸-koh tiam² hoo⁷ toh⁸: suh nng⁷ chhui³-a², koh sit hoo⁷ hoa.

　　　　中文：煙點下去，吸兩口就把它捺熄。等一下子才又把它點著，再吸個兩口，再把它捺熄。這樣，一天就在吞雲吐霧中過去了。

　　　　English: She would light up the cigarette, take two puffs and put it away. Wait a while then light it up again, take two more puffs and put it away again. Thus the whole day is passed among the smoke and the clouds.

　　　　5.台文：阮媽媽共我講，阮阿媽少年的時真媠，伊閣有一個雙生仔的妹妹，兩個人攏有真濟查晡仔teh逐in。

　　　　教羅：Gun² ma-ma ka⁷ goa² kong², gun² a-ma² siau³-lian⁵ e⁵ si⁵ chin sui²! I koh u⁷ chit⁸-e⁵ siang-siⁿ-a² e⁵ me⁷-me⁷, nng⁷ e⁵ lang⁵ long² u⁷ chin che⁷ cha-poo-gin2-a2 teh jioh in.

　　　　中文：我媽媽跟我說，我外婆年輕的時候很漂亮！她還有一個雙胞胎妹妹，倆個人都有很多男生在追她們

　　　　English: My mother told me, Grandma was gorgeous when she was young. She also had a twin sister. All the guys wanted to holler at them.

　　　　台文：因為我的阿公是上ian5投閣上巧的，所以伊就變作我的阿媽矣。

　　　　教羅：In-ui⁷ goan² a-kong si⁷ siong⁷ ian⁵-ta^u5 koh siong⁷ khiau² e⁵, soo²-i² i tioh⁸ pian³ cho³ goa² e⁵ a-ma²--ah.

　　　　中文：因為我的外公是最帥也是最聰明的，所以她就變成我的外婆了。

　　　　English: Because my grandfather was the most handsome and the smartest, she then became my grandmother.

6.台文：細漢的時，我一直蹛佇美國，阿媽一直蹛佇台灣，

　　　　教羅：Se³-han³ e⁵ si⁵, goa² it-tit⁸ toa³ ti⁷ Bi²-kok, a-ma² it-tit⁸ toa³ ti⁷ Tai⁵-oan⁵,

　　　　中文：小時候，我一直住在美國，外婆則一直住在台灣，

　　　　English: When I was young, I lived in the States, and Grandma lived in Taiwan.

　　　　台文：雖然真生份，阿毋閣嘛感覺真親切，因為伊是我佇台灣上親的親人。

　　　　中文：雖然覺得很陌生，不過也還覺得很親切，因為她是我在台灣最親的親人。

　　　　English: Although I felt distant, but felt familiar at the same time, because she was my closest relative in Taiwan.

　　　　台文：若是我歇熱轉來台灣，攏是及阿媽蹛做伙，彼嘛是我的記持內底上歡喜的代誌。

　　　　中文：要是我放假回台灣來，都是跟外婆住在一起，那也是我記憶中最喜歡的事。

　　　　English: When I came back to Taiwan for vacation I would always stay with Grandma, those were the happiest times of my childhood memories.

7.台文：以前阿媽嘛捌搬去美國及阮蹛，毋閣伊蹛袂慣勢，尾仔閣搬轉來台灣住。

　　　　教羅：I²-cheng⁵ a-ma² ma⁷ bat poaⁿ khi³ Bi²-kok kah goan² toa³, m⁷-koh I toa³ be⁷ koan³-si³, boe²-a² koh poaⁿ tng² lai⁵ Tai⁵-oan⁵ toa³.

　　　　中文：以前外婆也曾經搬去美國跟我們住，不過她住不習慣，後來又搬回來台灣了。

　　　　English: Grandma once moved to the States to live with us for a while. However she could not get used to the environment, so at the end she moved back to Taiwan.

　　　　台文：阿媽佇美國的時，因為我無啥會曉講台語，伊的英語嘛袂通，但是但是阿媽真疼我。

　　　　中文：外婆住在美國的時候，因為我不會說台語，她的英文也不能溝通，但是我知道外婆很疼我。

　　　　English: When Grandma lived with us in the States, I couldn't speak Taiwanese and she couldn't speak English, we could barely communicate with each other. But I knew she loved me dearly.

　　　　台文：所以我就共家己講：「有一工，我一定欲用台語及阿媽講話。」

　　　　教羅：Soo²-i² goa² tioh⁸ ka⁷ ka-ki⁷ kong²: "U⁷ chit⁸-kang, goa² it-teng⁷ beh eng⁷ liu⁵-li⁷ e⁵ Tai⁵-gi² kah a-ma² kong²-oe⁷."

　　　　中文：所以我就跟自己講：「有一天，我一定要用流利的台語跟外婆說話。

　　　　English: So I told myself, "One day, I must use fluent Taiwanese to talk to Grandma."

　　　　台文：雖然這馬阿媽佇天頂，毋閣我去共阿媽拜拜的時，攏是用台語共伊講話。

　　　　教羅：Sui-jian⁵ chit-ma² a-ma2 ti⁷ thiⁿⁿ-teng⁴, m⁷-koh goa² khi³ ka⁷ a-ma² pai³-pai³ e⁵ si⁵, long²-si⁷ eng⁷ Tai⁵-gi² kah I kong²-oe⁷.

　　　　中文：雖然現在外婆在天上，可是我去給阿媽拜拜的時候，都是用台語跟她說話。

　　　　English: Even though Grandma is in heaven right now, when I go worship her at the temple, I would use Taiwanese to speak to her.

　　　　台文：我真想我的阿媽！阿媽若是知影我這馬已經會當用台語講這個故事，伊應該會真歡喜。

　　　　中文：我很想我的外婆，外婆要是知道我現在已經可以用台語說這些小故事，她應該會十分高興。

　　　　English: I really miss my grandmother. If she knows that I could now use Taiwanese to deliver this simple story, she must be really happy.
