每到鳳凰花開，蟬鳴聒噪的時候，也就是本所暑期班開始的時候。火紅繽紛的鳳凰花樹與高潮迭起的蟬鳴，正如張燈結綵與鑼鼓、銅鈸、嗩吶交織而成的喜慶景象，為的是迎接一批批台灣新客的到來。

In Taiwan, the blooming of the Royal Poinciana flowers and the singing of cicadas signal the arrival of summer and the beginning of the ICLP summer program. The decorated scene naturally paints itself as if preparing to welcome our new visitors to Taiwan.

本所歷年學生除了來自歐美名校之外，還有兩大特徵，一是以歐裔學生為主，一是男性高於女性。今年暑期生一如往常，以歐裔學生為主，男性高於女性。歐裔學生佔68.37%；華裔佔27.55%；亞裔佔4.08%。性別與去年相較，女性人數略勝男性些許，女性佔52.04%；男性佔47.96%，去年男性佔54.29%，女性佔45.71% 。

The majority of ICLP students are elites from European and American universities. Two major demographic characteristics normally appear among them: (1) the majority tend to be Caucasian; (2) male students usually outnumber female students. The first characteristic follows the usual pattern. In this year’s summer program, 68.47% of the students are of European heritage, while 27.55% are of Chinese heritage and 4.08% are of other Asian heritage. However, the latter of the two characteristics does not follow its usual pattern; female students this quarter outnumber male students, with percentages of 52.04% and 47.96%, respectively.

2009-10暑期生經過新生說明會與相關活動的指引後，已經正式上課一週半，也適應了以鍛鍊口說能力為主的課程模式。歷屆暑期生在短短八週密集的訓練後，口說能力令人為之側目，相信今年的學生也不例外。結業口頭成果發表會，將令人拭目以待。

After welcoming students through orientations and festive activities, ICLP’s 2010 Summer Program officially began last week. The ICLP curriculum excels at training students in improving their oral fluency. The students’ speaking abilities will vastly improve after an eight-week intensive training session, and at the end of the summer program, the students will deliver final presentations. Undoubtedly, their performance will be extraordinary.

「台灣新客」也是本所在IUP70時代為初級學習者所編寫的教材名稱。

“臺灣新客” was a Chinese language textbook designed for elementary-level students in the 70s of IUP.
