Earlier this May, ICLP took their annual trip from Taipei down into the middle region of Taiwan. Led by veteran ICLP teacher and expert on Taiwanese history and culture Ms. Fann Meiyuan (范美媛老師), students got to witness the traditional festival activities surrounding the birthday of Taiwan’s patron spirit Mazu(媽祖). In Beigang(北港) and Lugang (鹿港) where the festival is most passionate, student’s were not just observing, but also really had the chance to participate in the lively cultural phenomenon. For most, it wasn’t just a chance to use their language skills they learned in class, but really a great experience about real Taiwanese life outside of the big city.
