Bovingdon Elucidates Central Asian Identity

[Staff] July, 17 professor Gardner Bovingdon delivered a lecture entitled the “Politics of National Identity of Central Asia” (中亞民族認同問題) to a packed audience as part of ICLP’s Friday guest lecture series. Prof. Bovingdon offered a primer for understanding the relationship between ethnicity, nationality, language and politics in Central Asian states. The speech was delivered in Chinese, with English glosses of academic terms.

Bovingdon, who received his PhD from Cornell, currently holds appointments in the Central Eurasian Studies, Political Science, and East Asian Languages and Cultures programs at Indiana University, Bloomington. His researches Xinjiang and Chinese ethnic minorities.
