ICLP Dream Team

Takes on Game Show

[Mar. 14]  ICLP students, teachers and staff headed to the Nangang (南港) studios of China Television (中國電視) to compete on game show Tiaozhan 101 (挑戰101).  Seven of the ICLP’s finest pitted their knowledge of entertainment, history, science and miscellaneous trivia against over 90 other contestants on the hit Taiwanese program. 

        After several hours of patient waiting, the ICLP team mounted the towering grid-like structure from which contestants buzz in their answers.  “We’re right in the middle,” one student remarked with surprise, exasperation or perhaps sheer terror upon realizing that they had been positioned right in the middle of the 101 contestants.  Celebrity guest participants from Xing Guang Da Dao (星光大道)a program similar to American Idolsat just one row below.

        Tiaozhan 101 is a game of elimination.  A participant’s chances of striking it rich increase each time he or she survive a multiple choice question.  Eliminated players continue to aid to their teammates until being revived for the next round.  Student David Bratt correctly answered successive questions about Confucius and the NBA proving himself a master of trivia East and West, and garnering attention from the shows host Hu Gua (胡瓜).  (continued)

ICLP Language Exchange Program Already In Bloom

      Although in the midst of preparing for this winter term's final examinations, recently, a group of ICLP students already started looking ahead towards the spring term.  Eager to put into practice the language improvement gained in the classroom and delve deeper into the culture of the place many have called home for the last six months, students attended a preliminary briefing of next term's language exchange program between ICLP and NTU undergraduate students.  NTU Professor and ICLP Director Leung Yanwing lead the session introducing the goals of such a program to provide students with the opportunity to supplement classroom language learning via personal interaction with Taiwanese student peers.  Administrative Director Chen Li-Yuan echoed Director Leung's sentiments emphasizing the great cultural exchange opportunity for both ICLP and Taiwanese students alike.
